Op-Ed for The Daily Beast
This week I published an opinion piece for The Daily Beast about a Black cemetery in Bethesda, Maryland that has been desecrated and disrespected for more than half a century. In the 1960s, white Marylanders took the land and proceeded to build an apartment complex and parking lot on top of the cemetery, and in 2021, the Maryland government has attempted to sell this land to another group of developers. All the while, the Black bodies still remain under the ground.
It is a tragic story that highlights the depth of American ethnocide in the recent past and into the present. Even in death, ethnocide inclines American society to try to profit off of Black bodies at the expense of Black people and culture.

Podcast with Unabridged: Teachers Take on Books
Today my podcast appearance on Unabridged: Teachers Take on Books was published.
I had a great time talking with my good friend Ashely Dickson-Ellison about my book The Crime Without a Name: Ethnocide and the Erasure of Culture in America (Bookshop) (Libro.fm). We had a great conversation about my book that I know will be insightful even for people who have already read the book and are familiar with my work.
Also, a funny thing about my podcast and event appearances is that they normally go longer than the allocated time. The host’s plan is for the discussion to last between 45 minutes to an hour, but they always exceed an hour and the hosts rarely find the time to ask all of their questions. With each event or podcast, I always politely remind the host that the discussion will probably exceed an hour, and that I am perfectly okay with talking for more than an hour so that they can hopefully ask me everything they wanted to ask. This podcasts was planned for 45 minutes to an hour, and we spoke for more than an hour and fifteen minutes and we could have talked for two hours.
I hope all of you enjoy the episode.
